چکیده

We describe the current state of the Pixel-planes research project, whose goal is to develop powerful raster graphics systems for the next generation of workstations, The first full-scale prototype has been in regular use in our department's computer graphics laboratory since its first demonstration at SIG GRAPH '86, more than a year ago, We describe the final hardware configuration of the prototype system, filling in some of the engineering details heretofore unpublished, Next we outline the programming environment for the machine and summarize the major algorithms that have been developed, Finally we discuss our progress towards a new generation of the Pixel-planes architecture, Pixel planes 5,

Harnessing Parallelism for High-Performance Interactive Computer Graphics

This paper provides a summary of the Pixel-Planes project from its inception in 1980 to the present (1996). The goals of the project have been to advance the state of the art in interactive computer graphics and visualization. During those sixteen years, the Pixel-Planes group at the University of North Carolina have built several prototype systems, including two full-scale machines, and are in...

Mathematical Morphology Tools for Gray-scale Image Compression

This work introduces a new algorithm for gray-scale image compression using mathematical morphology tools. In order to get a good compression ratio, a bit-plane decomposition is used. Different planes are coded by different methods. The first 4 more significant planes are coded by a combined boundary-sceleton technique, because they are preserving the most important part of information. For the...

A Plain- Image Dependent Image Encryption Scheme Using Half-pixel-level Interchange Permutation Operation

In this paper, a chaos-based image encryption scheme with half-pixel-level interchange permutation strategy and plain-image dependence is proposed. The proposed image encryption scheme consists of a confusion process and a diffusion process. In the confusion process, a pixel-swapping operation between higher bit planes and lower bit planes is employed to replace the traditional confusion operat...

An Effective Color-difference-based Demosaicking Method

This paper proposes an effective color-difference-based (ECDB) interpolation algorithm for color filter array (CFA) image demosaicking. A CFA image consists of a set of spectrally selective filters which are arranged in an interleaved pattern such that only one color component is sampled at each pixel location. To improve the quality of reconstructed fullcolor images from CFA images, the ECDB a...

Robust segment-based Stereo using Cost Aggregation

Introduction Most segment based stereo methods estimate disparity by modeling color segments as 3-D planes [2]. Inherently, such methods are sensitive to segmentation parameters and intolerant to segmentation errors. Two main dependencies of these methods on the underlying segmentation algorithm are: size of segments used for estimating planes, and assignment of a single plane to the whole segm...
